Kevin Costner

Costner, Kevin (1955- ), American actor, director, and producer, who became one of Hollywood’s most popular stars in the late 1980s. Costner was born in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. He considered becoming a professional baseball player after high school, but instead enrolled at California State University, Fullerton. He graduated in 1978 with a degree in marketing. Costner became interested in acting, and after playing some roles in community theater, rift gold he decided to pursue an acting career.

Costner landed a number of small film parts in the early 1980s. After a near miss at fame in the popular motion picture The Big Chill (1983)—Costner’s part was edited out of the film—he got his first real break in 1983 playing a nuclear-war survivor in the film Testament. Costner’s portrayal of a gunfighter in Silverado (1985) established him as a leading actor.

After Silverado, Costner appeared in several highly successful films. In The Untouchables (1987) he played United States Treasury agent Eliot Ness, who fought organized crime in Chicago, Illinois, in the 1920s. No Way Out (1987) featured Costner as a naval officer and spy. In Bull Durham (1988) he won acclaim for his performance as Crash Davis, an aging professional baseball catcher who falls in love with an ardent fan played by Susan Sarandon.

One of Costner’s most successful films was Field of Dreams (1989), which features him as Ray Kinsella, an Iowa farmer who hears a mysterious voice telling him to plow up one of his cornfields to build a baseball diamond. He does, and the spirits of the members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox appear and play baseball there. When commands from the voice continue, Ray ignores his farming work to puzzle out what they mean.

Wanting to produce and direct, Costner formed his own production company in 1989. In association with Orion Pictures Corporation, he directed, coproduced, and starred in the ambitious three-hour film Dances with Wolves (1990), the story of a soldier during the time of the American Civil War (1861-1865) who lives among the Sioux people. The film won seven Academy Awards, including for best picture and best director.

Costner’s next two films, both released in 1991, were JFK, a movie about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy directed by Oliver Stone, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Costner also starred in The Bodyguard (1992) with Whitney Houston and in A Perfect World (1993), in which he portrayed an escaped convict pursued by a Texas Ranger played by Clint Eastwood.

Costner returned to directing with Waterworld (1995) and The Postman (1997), starring in both as well, but the films failed at the box office. Costner’s other roles have included a struggling golfer in Tin Cup (1996); a baseball player near the rift gold end of his career in For Love of the Game (1999); a political aide during the Cuban missile crisis in Thirteen Days (2000); a member of a gang of casino robbers in 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001); and a widower who believes his dead wife is trying to communicate with him in Dragonfly (2002).

Britney Spears Tells Detractors 'Kiss My A

Britney Spears took to Twitter to respond to stories that her boyfriend, Jason Trawick, TERA Gold assaulted her. She said, "Star Magazine, Radar Online, Jason Alexander and the rest of you liars, yawl can kiss my lily white southern Louisiana a**!"

Spears also wrote about her birthday celebration plans -- Spears celebrated her 29th birthday on the Dec. 2. "OK, off on a romantic weekend with Jason for my birthday. xoxo Brit," she tweeted.

Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager, is also slamming Star magazine for its report that Trawick abused the pop star, calling the story "completely and utterly false. Suffice it to say, Jason Trawick has never laid a hand on Britney."

Spears manager also tells Us Magazine, "It's amazing that Star continues to try to defend their story by putting out more and more pieces of a fraudulent recording. Everyone knows it is not her. RIFT Platinum The more they put out, the more ridiculous they look. The lawyers are drawing up the legal papers right now; there will 100 percent be a lawsuit. We are suing."

The Spears drama started on Wednesday when alleged conversations between Spears and Alexander, rift gold her one-time husband of 55 hours, were posted on online.

When asked about problems with "fiance" Trawick, a voice reported to be Spears replied, "That f***er is not my fiance." RIFT Platinum The voice attributed to Alexander then asked, "I thought he proposed to you or something at the beach?" Spears allegedly answered, "Before or after he beat on me?"

Alexander swears the tape is legit. "I completely stand behind my story ... that is absolutely my ex-wife Britney Spears on that tape," he told Star.

Star reports that Alexander has taken a polygraph test, which he passed. Rift Gold "Alexander passed a polygraph test administered on Nov. 19 in which the examiner determined Alexander showed absolutely no signs of deception," according to Star.

USDA Nutritional Requirements

The U.S. Department of Agriculture publishes dietary guidelines for Americans every five years. Most recently published in 2005, the new guidelines have not yet been published. Rift Gold Nutritional requirements for people older than 2 years are organized in the easy-to-understand visual graphic MyPyramid, which is designed to help you make the best choices from each food group and choose the most nutrient-dense foods and stay within your daily calorie requirements.

Grains
The first section, colored orange, represents grains. The USDA recommends between six and eight servings of grains for adults, with at least half of those servings coming from whole grains such as oatmeal, brown rice or whole cornmeal. MayoClinic.com explains that whole grains including the bran and germ may help lower blood pressure by increasing your potassium intake and decreasing insulin resistance. One oz. is a serving for most grain products.

The green section represent vegetables, which includes vegetable juices and beans. RIFT Platinum The USDA breaks this category down into five subgroups: dark-green vegetables, orange vegetables, dried beans and peas, starchy vegetables and other vegetables, which includes mushrooms, eggplant and okra. Adults should eat between 2 1/2 and 3 cups of vegetables a day, and try to get 3 cups of dark-green vegetables, 2 cups of orange vegetables, 3 cups of dry beans and peas, 3 to 6 cups of starchy vegetables and 6 to 7 cups of other vegetables per week.

Fruits
The next section, fruits, is color-coded red. The USDA recommends just two servings of fruit daily. A serving is 1 cup of fruit or fruit juice or 1/2 cup of dried fruit.

Oils
The smallest section of MyPyramid is the yellow oils section, which includes both liquid oils, rift gold such as olive or canola oil, and solid oils such as butter or lard. The USDA recommends between 5 and 7 tsp. of oil, but cautions that many foods such as nuts, salad dressings and fish may be naturally high in oils. MayoClinic.com suggests using monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which include heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Milk
The blue section represents milk, a group that includes milk, milk-based desserts, RIFT Platinum cheese and yogurt. The USDA recommends three servings of fat-free or low-fat dairy products without added sugars. A serving is 1 cup of milk or yogurt, 1 1/2 oz. of hard cheese or 2 oz. of processed cheese.

Meat and Beans
The final purple section is lean protein, which includes meat, fish, poultry, nuts, TERA Gold seeds, eggs and dry beans and peas, which are part of this group and the vegetable group. The USDA reminds you that choosing high-fat protein counts toward your seven servings of oils and fats. Eat 5 to 6 oz. of lean protein daily.

What to Drink on a Diet

Overview
When trying to lose weight in a healthy manner, give as much consideration to what you drink as you do to what you eat. Beverages can provide needed nutrients, Rift Gold but many otherwise healthy drinks can also be high in calories. Instead, pick your beverages with an eye on their contribution to both your health and your total daily caloric intake.

Green Tea
Green tea is calorie-free and rich in antioxidants, among them substances called catechins. RIFT Platinum Catechins and other antioxidants in green tea may help liver disease and cancer, as well as lower cholesterol and triglycerides. Green tea also helps kill cavity-causing bacteria that lead to tooth plaque and it may help arthritis by fighting inflammation in the body. A cup of green tea contains half or less as much caffeine as does a cup of coffee. Decaffeinated green tea is available. So, green tea gives health benefits without adding calories.

5 Foods you must not eat: Cut down a bit of stomach fat every day by never eating these 5 foods. Naviibk.com

Vegetable Juice
When dieting, vegetable juice is often a better choice than fruit juice, which is much higher in sugar and calories. For example, an 8-oz. serving of V-8 brand mixed vegetable juice, contains 50 calories compared to 112 in fresh-squeezed orange juice. rift gold Vegetable juice is also a good liquid source of important nutrients. For example, an 8-oz. serving of V-8 provides 120 percent of your daily vitamin C, 40 percent of your vitamin A and 820 mg of potassium. If you buy your vegetable juice, choose a low-sodium variety. Better yet, make your own and add herbs and spices instead of salt.

Smoothies
Smoothies make a nutritious and tasty meal substitute when you're dieting. The calorie count will, of course, vary depending on the ingredients. RIFT Platinum For a fruit smoothie, use fresh fruit instead of fruit juice to get the fiber benefit of the fruit, mix in yogurt for protein and calcium, wheat germ for B vitamins and more fiber, thicken with crushed ice and enjoy. Or, try a vegetable smoothie, using vegetable or tomato juice as a base, then blend in wheat germ, black beans and other chopped vegetables for a complete meal in a glass.

Water
Don't overlook the most obvious calorie-free drink of all -- water. Approximately 60 percent of your body weight is water and every tissue in your body needs it for good health. You lose approximately 1.5 L of fluid through urine every day, plus another 1 L through breathing, sweating and stool. You can replace about 20 percent of your lost water through food, TERA Gold but you still need to drink approximately 2 L -- or slightly more than 8 cups -- of water or other liquids to replace all you lose each day. By choosing plain water more often than other beverages, you can keep yourself healthy and hydrated without adding unwanted calories

Post-Spring Top 25: LSU, Oklahoma top rankings

Don’t be shocked if something similar happens again this fall — especially after Auburn and Oregon came from the back of the top 25 pack last year to play for it all.

1. LSU. We’re buying into the maturation of quarterback Jordan Jefferson; that, and the Tigers’ nasty defense and elite skill players on offense. And at this point, we’re simply not betting against the SEC. Period.

2. Oklahoma: The Sooners’ interior lines are terrific, and quarterback Landry Jones last year had the quietest 38 touchdown passes in the history of the game. Freshman tailback Brandon Williams will bring it all together.

3. Alabama.

4. Stanford.

5. Oregon: Welcome to the world of the SEC, and the Big 12 prior to this season: More times than not, TERA Gold two teams in the same division will be the two best teams in your conference.

6. Boise State: Mountain West Conference or Western Athletic Conference. Does it really make a difference? Boise – fair or not -- only gets to New Orleans with complete chaos.

7. Florida State: Seriously, this is the year the ‘Noles return to the nation’s elite.

8. Ohio State.

9. Oklahoma State.

10. Nebraska: There’s a chance – RIFT Platinum a very good chance – electric quarterback Taylor Martinez and a wicked defense can lead to great things in Year 1 in the Big Ten. If Martinez can stay healthy.

11. Arkansas.

12. Texas A&M.

13. Virginia Tech: Auburn, 2010, meet Auburn, 2011. Logan Thomas can do for the Hokies what Cam Newton did for the Tigers.

14. Wisconsin.

15. Auburn.

16. Michigan State.

17. Notre Dame: Get ready, ND bashers. Guess who’s back in the BCS? Coach Brian Kelly is that good, and the schedule is that favorable.

18. South Carolina.

19. TCU. The step back this fall isn’t because TCU lost so much, it’s because TCU lost one of the best players in school history. rift gold Replacing quarterback Andy Dalton – and all he meant on game day – will be the difference in playing in a third straight BCS game or the Las Vegas Bowl.

20. Mississippi State.

21. Utah: Wait and see how quickly Utah realizes there are no UNLVs in the Pac-12. The weekly battle will wear down a team that could’ve been another unbeaten non-BCS team this season had it stayed in the MWC.

22. West Virginia.

23. Arizona State: Sun Devils were a handful of plays last season from winning nine games. RIFT Platinum Quarterback Brock Osweiler got hot late last season, and played well this spring. The defense will be stout; the offense is the key to a much higher ranking.

24. Penn State.

25. USC: Maybe the most intriguing team in the top 25. Trojans have enough talent to win 10 or 11 games, but this team is a few injuries from playing freshmen at critical positions. Rift Gold There are just not enough experienced bodies on the two-deep depth chart.

The Belly and the Members

SOME Workingmen employed in a shoe factory went on a strike,
saying: "Why should we continue to work to feed and clothe our

The Manufacturer, seeing that he could get no labour for a long
time and finding the times pretty hard anyhow, burned down his shoe
factory for the insurance, and when the strikers wanted to resume
work there was no work to resume. So they boycotted a tanner.

The weary lineman replied, "Ma'am, I'll be coming to you in a truck, not an envelope."

How to Negotiate a Divorce Settlement

Overview
Negotiating a divorce settlement allows both parties an opportunity to avoid the cost and stress that can come from a divorce trial. A mediator can provide a sense of ease between the two parties as they discuss how to best handle issues, such as finances, distribution of property and payment of child support among other concerns. A divorce settlement requires perseverance and cooperation from both parties to negotiate an ideal agreement, but keep in mind that the costs of a trial can be an even greater stressor.

Step 1
Consult an attorney to understand the family laws in your state because different states may have different policies concerning issues common in a divorce settlement, such as alimony and spousal support, according to The Modern Woman's Divorce Guide website.

Step 2
Identify the issues in your divorce and establish your goals for each issue. Rift Gold Compromise is common and necessary in a divorce settlement to avoid the costs and time of a trial so Informed Divorce website suggests prioritizing each issue to gain an understanding of what you feel strongly about contesting and what you may be willing to negotiate.

Step 3
Consider the long-term consequences of all settlement offers, according to Inside Divorce. RIFT Platinum The purpose of a divorce settlement is to negotiate an agreement you can live with so a court trial will not make the decisions for you.

Step 4
Present your settlement statement at the pre-trial conference for the divorce settlement. Negotiations require each party to present a statement concerning their position in the divorce. rift gold The Modern Woman's Divorce Guide suggests using the settlement statement as an idea of what to expect if the divorce goes to trial and what you could lose if you are both unable to reach an agreement on the issues.

Step 5
Detail each agreement made during the negotiation in writing and have your ex and his lawyer sign the agreement, according to The Modern Woman's Divorce Guide. Each agreement must be as detailed as possible to avoid a further contest in the future. Neither party can renege on the agreement unless they have evidence of coercion, duress, fraud or a mistake from the other party. RIFT Platinum The Modern Woman's Divorce Guide reports that some cases allow the lawyer to request that a court reporter records and makes a transcript of the agreements to have the agreements on the record. The courts will review the agreement to ensure that both parties understand the details. Keep a copy of all agreements during the settlement negotiations.

Public Art

In Manhattan’s Eighth Avenue/Fourteenth Street subway station, a grinning bronze alligator with human hands pops out of a manhole cover to grab a bronze “baby” whose head is the shape of a moneybag. In the Bronx General Post Office, rift gold a giant 13-panel painting called Resources of America celebrates the hard work and industrialism of America in the first half of the twentieth century. And in Brooklyn’s MetroTech Center just over the Brooklyn Bridge, several installations of art are on view at any given time—from an iron lasso resembling a giant charm bracelet to a series of wagons that play recordings of great American poems to a life-sized seeing eye dog that looks so real people are constantly stopping to pet it. There exists in every city a symbiotic relationship between the city and its art. When we hear the term art, we tend to think of private art—the kind displayed in private spaces such as museums, concert halls, and galleries. But there is a growing interest in, and respect for, rift gold public art: the kind of art created for and displayed in public spaces such as parks, building lobbies, and sidewalks.

Although all art is inherently public—created in order to convey an idea or emotion to others—“public art,” as opposed to art that is sequestered in museums and galleries, is art specifically designed for a public arena where the art will be encountered by people in their normal day-to-day activities. Public art can be purely ornamental or highly functional; it can be as subtle as a decorative door knob or as conspicuous as the Chicago Picasso. It is also an essential element of effective urban design.

The more obvious forms of public art include monuments, sculptures, fountains, murals, and gardens. But public art also takes the form of ornamental benches or street lights, decorative manhole covers, and mosaics on trash bins. Many city dwellers would be surprised to discover just how much public art is really around them and how much art they have passed by without noticing, and how much impact public art has on their day-to-day lives.

Public art fulfills several functions essential to the health of a city and its citizens. It educates about history and culture—of the artist, the neighborhood, the city, the nation. Public art is also a “place-making device” that instantly creates memorable, experiential landmarks, fashioning a unique identity for a public place, personalizing it and giving it a specific character. It stimulates the public, challenging viewers to interpret the art and arousing their emotions, and it promotes community by stimulating interaction among viewers. In serving these multiple and important functions, public art beautifies the area and regenerates both the place and the viewer.

One question often debated in public art forums is whether public art should be created with or by the public rather than for the public. Increasingly, cities and artists are recognizing the importance of creating works with meaning for the intended audience, and this generally requires direct input from the community or from an artist entrenched in that community. At the same time, however, art created for the community by an “outsider” often adds fresh perspective. Thus, cities and their citizens are best served by a combination of public art created by members of the community, art created with input from members of the community, and art created by others for the community.

Uganda Opposition Leader to Stage Another 'Walk-to-Work'

Uganda opposition leader Kizza Besigye says he and his supporters will stage another ‘walk-to-work’ Thursday to highlight what he says are high fuel and food prices, as well as alleged gross abuses of public office by the government of President Yoweri Museveni.
But, Ugandan police say Besigye will not be allowed to ‘walk-to-work’ without a permit.
Besigye insists he will continue walking until the government puts in place decisive measures to alleviate the cost of living.
“We shall, of course, rift gold continue this protest until the situation that we are protesting against changes, the terrible conditions under which our people have to survive at the moment. One of the biggest problems we have now is the cost of food. Our people are starving and they cannot afford to eat one meal a day…and this is what we are protesting for two main reasons. One, to show solidarity with the suffering masses, but, secondly, to shine the torch on these gross abuses of public office,” he says.
The government has accused Besigye of being responsible for the violence last week by insisting to walk to work without first notifying the police. The opposition leader was shot in the hand by a rubber bullet as police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators. Besigye was detained briefly during a similar walk April 11.
Besigye says the police are to blame for using excessive force against peaceful protesters.
“Of course, the government can say what it wants…Fortunately, all the activities have been widely covered by the media. There has been no violence of whatever nature started by our action. All the problems have been caused by a rampaging police trying to stop peaceful people who are walking, and that is what enrages people, and people start to respond sometimes violently toward the police. Therefore, the police must be held directly responsible for all the violence they start,” Besigye says.
The Uganda Broadcasting Council Wednesday warned broadcasters and media houses that it would take “appropriate action” against them if they carried material deemed to promote the culture of violence, ethnic prejudice and public insecurity.
Besigye says the government is trying to hide from the public the abuse of peaceful protesters.
“Until now, the media has had very, rift gold very close and wide coverage of what has been taking place and they have been informing the country of what is going on and, obviously, this has put the government in very poor light, showing the police tear gassing schools, homes, lobbing tear gas canisters in people’s homes, and those other kinds of abuses, which the government would like to hide from public view,” Besigye says.

'Jersey Shore's' 'JWOWW' accused of stabbing ex boyfriend in a jealous rage

The ex-boyfriend of former “Jersey Shore” star Jenni “JWOWW” Farley says she stabbed him in an attack that left him in need of 37 stitches, according to a report from Radar Online.

Tom Lippolis, whom Farley has accused of physical abuse and theft from her home, Rift Gold says Farley attacked him in a jealous rage during their relationship, which ended last year.

“Jenni put a kitchen knife through my entire arm,” Lippolis tells Star magazine. “I thought she was going to kill me.”

“I don’t understand how she could be talking, RIFT Platinum accusing me of physically abusing her when the entire relationship she did nothing but physically abuse me [and] cheat on me,” he said.

Lippolis said it required 37 stitches and rift gold also says he was left with bruises on his arms and shoulders from the attack.

He says he did not press charges against the “Jersey Shore” star because he was in love with her. RIFT Platinum But he says he has video of the attack, which he reportedly provided to Radar.

Lippolis was also Farley’s manager at the time and claims the star owes him thousands in unpaid booking fees.

In January, Farley took Lippolis to court in an attempt to block him from selling nude photographs of her

WHAT IS AESTHETICS ?

Aesthetics, which was not used as a term until after the 1750s, has been a matter of thoughtful discussion and disagreement for many centuries. The Greek philosopher Plato could, in fact, be considered the true originator of aesthetics because he spoke a great deal about the nature of beauty in several of his dialogues. For Plato, true beauty was an ideal beyond human perception; like truth and goodness, it was eternal. Beauty that was visible could not be absolutely beautiful, he believed, because it was subject to change, growth and decay. Beauty such as this was, in his judgement, rift gold merely an imitation of real beauty. For all that Plato said about beauty, his writings never give a precise definition of it. The Greek artists and artisans knew how they wanted to present beauty in such masterpieces as the Parthenon in Athens and the statue of Helios in Rhodes. They demanded proportion and harmony, in accordance with their principle of moderation: nothing too much or too little. But examples do not create definitions. During the late Middle Ages, St Thomas Aquinas tried to define beauty as “something pleasant to behold”. In imitation of the Greeks, he noted that, “Beauty consists in due proportion, rift gold for the senses delight in things duly proportioned.”

Bethenny Frankel Breaks Down Talking About Her Childhood

If you've been through a difficult childhood, it can be very challenging to open up and talk about it. rift gold But if you reach that point where it starts to come out, sometimes that emotion just pushes it all out. Such was the case for Bethenny Frankel on 'Bethenny Ever After.'

In her therapy session, she opened up about the craziness of her early life, talking about how her mother would yell at her for not wanting to go to a nightclub with her when Frankel was 13 years old. RIFT Platinum She struggled with her relationships with both her father and her stepfather.

"It sounds like I'm making it up when I say it out loud because it's so f**king crazy," RIFT Platinum vshe said. "But it didn't feel that crazy then. It really didn't."

It's what you knew," her therapist said.

But Frankel doesn't dwell on the negative moments in her life. Rift Gold "I did not feel traumatized as a child," she said. "I had some happy times. We did a lot of nice things. It wasn't like every day I was thinking I was in a screwed-up household."

Angry Birds sync feature will keep your score across devices

If you're one of those people who've bought Angry Birds multiple times for different devices, rejoice. You'll soon be able to port your saved game between your gadgets.
Rovio, the developer behind the game, has confirmed on Twitter that its sync feature will make its debut in the next couple of months. "We are working hard on that, before summer is the plan" the developer told a player who asked what the company's plans were for score synchronisation.
The new feature was first hinted at back in February, when Rovio tweeted that "we are working on a solution to get all Angry Birds devices in sync". That would mean you'd be able to start playing on your iPhone, but then switch to your iPad,rift gold Mac or even your PlayStation 3,rift gold keeping your progress and achievements across all of them.
It's the future. Not least because the technology developed for this kind of feature would also let you keep your saved game when upgrading to a new device -- for example, when going from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5, or switching to an Android handset.
Some iPhone game developers have been working on this kind of sync feature already. UK firm Revolution released its Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Remastered last December and used the Dropbox service to store saved-game data, so the tap'n'click adventure could be left off and resumed on different devices.
Meanwhile, start-up firm FTW has a service that aims to help developers do this kind of thing across the iOS, Android and Nintendo DS platforms, promising an "agnostic data-portability solution for video games".

The 3-D Art

Sculpture is a three-dimensional visual art. Paintings, drawings, and photographs are all two-dimensional, or flat. Sculptures are most often shaped by carving, molding, or welding materials. Some are formed by making a cast—that is,rift gold by pouring a liquid in a mold and letting it harden.

Sculpture, like other arts, is often made to express thoughts or feelings. People who look at it might respond with thoughts or feelings of their own. Because it can have shape and texture, sculpture may appeal to our sense of touch.
Some sculptures are realistic. Until the middle of the 20th century, most sculpture was meant to look like some person or thing. The giant stone faces on Easter Island, like much traditional sculpture, may have been meant to honor gods or heroes. Other famous realistic sculptures include Michelangelo’s “David” and Auguste Rodin’s “The Thinker.”

Some modern sculptures may be abstract. This means they only hint at an object or an idea. They may not look like people or things you would recognize. These sculptures try to communicate a pure feeling or idea.
Sculptures come in all sizes, shapes, rift gold, textures, and materials. Sculptors may use soft materials such as clay, wax, or wood or harder materials such as stone or metal. Sometimes the materials aren’t even meant to last. One artist makes sculptures out of milk! The modern sculptor Alexander Calder made sculptures that hang in the air. He called these “mobiles,” which means “moving things.” Another modern sculptor, named Christo, makes sculptures by wrapping such things as bridges, buildings, and even small islands in fabric and plastic.

Women's lacrosse: Stumble bumble in Baltimore

Eeeysh, well that sucked. As if losing to Florida on Thursday weren’t bad enough – it’s always a bit of a shocker when NU loses in lacrosse, but hey, Florida is ranked No. 6, so kudos to them – today, our Wildcats really laid a stinker, dropping a 12-11 decision to unranked Johns Hopkins.

In chilly, rainy and gusty conditions in Baltimore (just like Rodger at the spring football game, yours truly stayed dry and watched this match from the press box), NU took an early 5-2 lead, but too many defensive breakdowns, not enough offensive execution and some sloppy turnovers allowed Johns Hopkins to pull the major upset, which the Blue Jays celebrated in a huge dogpile after the final horn sounded.

NU now drops to 12-2 on the season, 2-2 in the American Lacrosse Conference. Rift Gold This marks the first time since 2003 that NU has lost two lacrosse games in a row. And this could be the first season since that same 2003 that NU doesn't finish first in the conference.

Not to be too negative on our Wildcats, but by the program’s lofty standards, RIFT Platinum this season has definitely erased that aura of invincibility that NU has held for so long. A loss to a team that was 0-2 in conference entering the game will do that to you.

Afterwards, head coach Kelly Amonte-Hiller was, in a word, pissed. Here are her postgame quotes I got while playing sportswriter—

On her thoughts of the game:

"Obviously, not too happy. Too many costly mistakes, turnovers, same old story."

On the challenge of every opponent wanting to knock off NU:

"It’s who we are. We’ve got to be able to deal with that. These kids need to learn how to go out there and be their best every moment and not have a down moment, because someone will take advantage of it. rift gold Unfortunately, this group has wasted a lot of time, and it’s caught up to them."

On what she said to the team after the game:

"Nothing. I didn’t even go into the locker room."

On how the team needs to respond:

"Yeah, it’s up to them. It’s their team, they have to do it. We can’t do it for them as a coaching staff. Obviously we work very hard to prepare them and to get them ready, but ultimately, when it comes down to it, RIFT Platinum the players are on the field, and they’re the ones that need to do it. They need to figure out how they’re going to respond next weekend."

Yikes, practice on Monday is sure going to be interesting, and I bet the bus ride to the airport and the flight home weren’t too fun.

Three games remaining in the regular season for the Wildcats, who will look to regain their mojo Friday against No. 11 Ohio State at Lakeside Field.

10 Things Men Love About Women

So what do men love about women, really? We asked a handful of men what elicits lust, RIFT Platinum love and everything in between. What we received was an eclectic mixture of womanly charms—some we knew, some we didn't—that cause even the most rugged of men to utter "I Love You."

1. You're soft and smell good. "I love how women smell. It's this amazing combination of shampoo, perfume, and whatever girly soap, bodywash stuff you guys use in the shower. Women smell amazing. Almost all the time." Nick, 29, marketing assistant

"Women are always so soft. rift gold I love their stomachs—not being overly toned is good—and resting my head on their breasts." Andrew, 22, college student
2. You're maternal. "I love how women have these maternal instincts. They're so much more warm and caring then your male friends. Oh, and if you cook for us we'll love you forever." Brian, 32, teacher

3. Bikinis. RIFT Platinum "Why do men love women? One word: Bikinis! All women just look so good in them, no matter how out of shape or fat you complain about feeling." Mark, 31, waiter 7 Body Parts Men Love—Just The Way They Are

4. You're a good listener. Rift Gold "I'd much rather talk to a female friend when I have a super huge emotional problem to solve. I get the sense they listen more than any of my guy friends and offer so much better insight." Alex, 24, accountant
The UFC continues to fill up cards in its busy summer season, slotting a pair of lightweight fights for upcoming events in June and July, respectively.

At UFC 131, Donald Cerrone will look for his fourth straight win in a match against former Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig, while UFC 132 will feature surging Melvin Guillard against Shane Roller. The verbal agreements were announced on UFC.com.

Cerrone (14-3, 1 no decision) recently captured his UFC debut with a submission win over Paul Kelly after moving over from the merged WEC. Rift Gold Prior to that, he tapped out Chris Horodecki and won a decision over former WEC champ Jamie Varner.

Danzig, meanwhile, is coming off a surprising first-round knockout win over Joe Stevenson at last December's UFC 124. Danzig (20-8-1) is a winner of two his last three bouts.

UFC 131 will emanate from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada on June 11 and feature a heavyweight main event pitting Brock Lesnar against Junior dos Santos.

UFC 132, meanwhile, RIFT Platinum has not yet officially been announced by the promotion, but is expected to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on July 2.

The dynamic Guillard (27-8-2, 1 no contest) has proven himself to be one of the division's most improved fighters, winning all four of his fights since the start of 2010 as he tries to work his way into contender status. rift gold In January, he knocked out the highly regarded Evan Dunham in the first round to capture his fourth straight.

His opponent, Roller, is a former collegiate wrestling All-American who has won five of his last six fights, losing only to top UFC contender Anthony Pettis during that time. He has back to back wins over Jamie Varner and Thiago Tavares, the latter coming in his UFC debut.

In addition, the UFC announced that Matt Brown vs. Rich Attonito has been added to the Ultimate Fighter 13 FInale.

Diet pills, fad diets, foods to boycott, foods to eat exclusively. RIFT Platinum With all the crazy diet advice out there, do you even remember the basics of healthy eating? Get rid of the clutter when it comes to diets, and use basic good nutrition guidelines and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Pyramid as your framework for healthy eating.

Food Groups and Healthy Nutrition: Today’s Food Pyramid

So how do we know what healthy meals should look like? The USDA is responsible for publishing nutritional guidelines for healthy eating based on ongoing research. While most of the general recommendations haven't changed over the years, there have been a few adjustments.

One change is a slight increase in the recommended number of fruits and vegetables. rift gold Women need at least seven servings of fruits and vegetables each day, while men need at least nine. RIFT Platinum"We just know there's so much good stuff in fruits and vegetables," including essential nutrients and fiber, says Sandra Meyerowitz, MPH, RD, a nutritionist and owner of Nutrition Works in Louisville, Ky. Carbohydrates are also an important part of a healthy diet, contrary to many popular fad diets being touted today.

Food Groups and Healthy Nutrition: USDA Recommendations

Here are details about the USDA's recommended nutritional guidelines to follow for a healthy eating plan:

Focus on fruits and vegetables: Get seven to nine fruits and vegetables each day. Rift Gold Go for low-fat dairy: Consume at least three cups of low-fat or fat-free milk each day or the equivalent in cheese, yogurt, or other calcium-rich foods. Choose whole grains: Get at least six to eight servings of whole grains each day. Steer clear of trans and saturated fats, sodium (salt), sugars, and cholesterol: Limit fat to only about 20 to 35 percent of total calorie intake and avoid trans and saturated fats. Choose lean proteins: Get about 15 percent of your calories from chicken without the skin, fish, beans, and legumes.

Spaniard Javier Martin Could Be Charged With Identity Theft

The Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) and the Auxiliary Prosecutor will be going to Santa Fe in the Darien to take statements from those who knew the Spaniard who is facing murder charges. The diligence will be done after investigations by TVN Noticias. The identity theft of Don North, rift gold the American who disappeared, and the reason why the Spaniard Javier Martin is being investigated, could be a factor linking him to the crime, and what's more it would be one more crime that would be added to those of theft, weapons possession, and the murder of the Frenchman. Javier Martin lied about his identity and posed as an American citizen. This was confirmed to TVN News by those who met him. The statements saying Javier Martin identified himself as Don North led the investigators from the DIJ to send detectives to Santa Fe to take the statements from those who had contact with him in the hostel Guacamaya. Sources within the judicial system revealed to TVN that there might be three, rift gold and not just two, victims of Javier Martin.

"The Spaniard" Almost Escaped

Javier Bermejo Martin spent almost a week walking among the people of Santa Fe in the province of the Darien without without arousing the slightest suspicion. The presence of the subject, who is about 40 years old with blonde hair and the appearance of an adventurer, rift gold did not disturb anyone in the village. "Here comes the gringo" some residents would say. Suspected of being the "Spanish Murderer," Martin Bermejo always wore a wig of black braids and a hat, which managed to confuse everyone in Santa Fe. Within days he bought two horses with their saddles, a pair of boots, and some land that had a house already erected on it, but he stayed in the Hostel Guacamaya in Puerto Lara, a small hotel in the area. People in Santa Fe think he was preparing to cross into Colombia.
In the Guacamaya he stayed in room #27 starting on Thursday, 10 February 2011, and he spent his time enjoying life. "It was all girls," said Martha Quintana, the Mayor of Santa Fe. Others said he spent several nights looking for a black girl who he said was "the same as this color," as he pointed to his leather shoe, showing it to the receptionist. In Santa Fe everyone though he was a gringo, because he registered in the Guacamaya as Don North, the American who is missing and who is believed to be a possible victim of "The Spaniard."

On Monday when he was arrested by the Border Service, he was coming back from the community of Lara, where he purchased the horses from Bolivar de Garcia for $3,000 dollars, and Alberto Barrios, the some of a farmer did some hauling for him for $50 round trip. On the day he arrived in Santa Fe, Martin Bermejo was detained and questioned by Police Intelligence (DIIP), but they found no grounds to arrest him so they let him go. Local authorities insisted and called the Border Service, rift gold which finally arrested him on Monday night.

At the home purchased by the Spaniard, police found a .38 caliber revolver, a 12 gauge shotgun, as well as a good supply of ammunition, a machete, a dagger, a nonlethal electric weapon, and $14,000 dollars in cash. They also seized a laptop computer and under the seat of the car in which he was travelling together with Villarreal they found a 9 mm pistol "with a bullet in the chamber," said the police. "Maybe he was thinking about doing something to the young man," the Mayor speculated, because the Spaniard had asked Villarreal to take him back to a secluded area. "We can sleep peacefully," sighed the Mayor.

Spaniard Caught in the Darien - Linked To Crime

The State Border Service (SENAFRONT) arrested on Monday in Puerto Lara, Darien, the Spaniard Javier Martin, who has been identified as the person who was last seen with the American Don North and the Frenchman Jean Pierre Bouhard, the first missing since January and the second killed this month. SENAFRONT sources explained that Martin was captured at about 7:00 pm as he was going by car towards a farm in the area, rift gold from a hotel in nearby Santa Fe. Shortly before he had been recognized by local people on the television evening news broadcast. Martin carried a .38 revolver with 99 bullets, a 16-gauge shotgun which had 80 shells, and a 40 mm Glock pistol with two boxes of ammunition. What's more he was also carrying a laptop computer, pepper spray, a knife, slightly more than $13,000 dollars, and a Visa card issued in the name of Don North.
On Monday he was placed at the disposal of prosecutors, who are investigating the case. Auxiliary Prosecutor Dimas Guevara confirmed Bouhard's body was found on 4 February 2011 in the area of Las Tres Marias in Portobelo, Colon, floating on the sea, his feet bound and shot in the head. Guevara said forensic experts were in Colon last week to inspect a farm and the boats of the victims were tested. Traces of blood were found in North's sailboat. (See Note). The prosecutor believes Martin was related to his two victims through activities related to the sea. In fact, rift gold North and Bouhard made constant business trips to Colombia, where they also engaged in transporting people. (See Note). The disappearance of North was denounced by his nephew Ezra North on 10 January 2011, who said his uncle planned to go to Colombia earlier this year and had hired Martin. (See Note) That was the last time he was seen. His boat, the Wind Dancer, was found in El Porvenir renamed Green Twyla. The French boat, Levante, was also located near San Blas.

Is Language Infinite?

Wilhelm von Humboldt and Noam Chomsky

Wilhelm von Humboldt's phrase that language is 'the infinite use of finite means' has been cited by Noam Chomsky, who in turn has frequently referred to the concept of infinite language, a speaker's competence, which in Chomsky's terminology is their ability to produce a potentially infinite number of correct sentences. It has also been argued that it is possible to generate an infinitely long sentence along the lines of 'this is the rat that ate the corn stored in the barn by the house that Jack built'.

Language can be theoretically infinite both textually and diachronically, over time. It would probably be more accurate to use a term such as Alan Turing's 'infinitive state', which he applied to computer memory which could always be added to, but would, at any point in time, be limited in actual use. At any given moment, however brief, there are a finite number of texts in existence, rift gold even though we couldn't calculate them and the number is changing all the time.

Is Language Infinite Synchronically?

What I would like to look at is whether language is infinite synchronically, at a point in time. To do this, I want to look at an abstracted and theoretical version of language, one where the entire vocabulary has been recorded, together with every single rule for the possible combinations of words that will allow meaningful sentences to be formed. This is our snapshot of language and it holds true until a new word or meaning is formed. When that happens, the system will simply be updated. Every name from every language, every place, etc., are all included; we a have a machine that contains the entire language in terms of words and rules. All dialects, all 'questionable' uses are included; everything that would be accepted and understood by members of the speech community has been codified and included. We have inputted all of this into a mega-computer capable of spewing out trillions of sentences in nanoseconds.

If we take a word like 'book' and consider the list of adjectives that could come before it, we run through our dictionary and produce a list that eventually includes every possible adjective. No use, no matter how implausible or eccentric has been excluded; we keep building the list until no-one can find any more appropriate adjectives. The list runs to tens or hundreds of thousands, but size is not important; what matters is that it has an end. These adjectives can in turn be modified by one or more adverbs, of which there may well be thousands. Nouns can be used in the same way as adjectives, as can other words. We list them all and work out every possible permutation.

Our machine, like Bob Newhart's infinite number of monkeys, pours out trillions of combinations and entire forests are felled to keep the printers stocked with paper. But eventually the printer stops and someone says that it's time to make 'book' plural. Then it will be time to move onto the verbs it goes with, etc. In this sense, rift gold it is theoretically possible to generate the entire output of a language at any given time. The numbers involved are so astronomical that they may seem infinite, but they are not; immeasurable and incalculable are not synonymous with infinite. A single neologism could offer trillions and trillions of new combinations, but the synchronic view is always finite; a closed system with a limited number of words that can combine in a limited number of ways cannot produce infinity. The fact that we couldn't get remotely close to exhausting a language's potential supply of sentences does not mean that it is not theoretically possible. Wilhelm von Humboldt seems to me wrong to believe that the finite can generate infinite variety; it can only be used infinitely through repetition.

Myelination

Myelination, also known as myelinization, is a process that occurs in the brain wherein a myelin sheath is formed around a nerve fiber. Myelinated neurons are the white matter of the brain. The explosion of neurological research has increased educational psychologists’ interest in exploring how the brain works and its relationship to learning as myelination is a developmental process. Important issues of myelination include how and when it is formed rift gold and what new research says about its production and destruction. Myelin is composed of lipid fat and protein. It is produced by different cell types and varies in its chemical composition. However, although varied by cell of origin and composition, all myelin performs the same function—insulation. The process of myelination occurs when the myelin envelops the axons in the brain, thereby connecting neuron to neuron and making the brain into a singular whole. The main function of myelination is insulation and therefore it dramatically increases the speed by which electrical impulses are transmitted between nerve cells in the brain. This insulation also helps to prevent signals from leaving the axons. An additional function of myelination is the protection of axons from external danger. When a peripheral fiber is severed, the myelin sheath can help to provide a track along which regrowth can occur between axons.

Myelination is a developmental process that occurs in the brain. In fact, recent research suggests that brain development occurs throughout the lifespan of humans. The brain is composed of many regions with specific functions. The maturation of these regions and their connecting pathways is required for one to be successful in the development of cognitive, motor, and sensory functions. As the brain matures and connections are made between regions, the smooth flow of information is increased by the process of myelination. This extensive process of myelination increases information processing speed and underlies the processes of language and executive functions of the brain.

Myelination begins during the fifth fetal month with the myelination of the cranial nerves. Postmortem studies suggest that the myelination process is extensive during the first 2 years of life. The first 10 years of life are dedicated to the myelination in regions of the brain primarily responsible for vision, hearing, and motor skills as well as the areas responsible for basic thinking skills. However, the previous notion that brain development ends in childhood is disproved by recent research that instead indicates that the brain may not be fully mature into late adulthood, maybe even the entire life span. Although the timetable of myelination during childhood and adolescence is still being researched, the current research suggests a gradual maturation during late childhood and early adolescence of fiber pathways that support motor and speech functions. Portions of the brain responsible for higher thinking skills and abstract or reasoned thought appear to be myelinated in the 20s and 30s or even later in life. Maximum myelination is thought to occur around the age of 50.

The myelination process is vulnerable to genetic and environmental factors, including toxins, genetic predispositions, and even diet. The disruption of myelination is a key neurobiological component that makes the human brain susceptible to developmental disorders such as autism, learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, and addiction. Also, decay of myelin due to autoimmune damage is suspected in diseases such as multiple sclerosis. The midlife breakdown of myelin could be a key to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease as well. More research is needed to determine what affects the process of myelination. Research continues to look at the role of diet rift gold and nutrition in the process of myelination. Also, the development of drugs that mimic the stimulation of cells that produce myelin may be effective in the treatment of demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. It is crucial that more is known about how myelination takes place to offer insight into the learning process as myelination determines the character and nature of one’s mind and personality.
We've come a long way since last Sunday when the Rays checked with a record of 2-8 and were dealing with the national spectacle of Manny Ramirez and his sudden retirement because of a failed drug test. The week ended with a loss in Chicago which saw Joe Maddon ejected and then responded by ejecting each of the umpires. The Rays were off to Fenway to meet up with the Red Sox who were equally desperate for wins.

The Rays finished the week with a 5-1 record to push their season record to 6-9. The starting pitching showed their ability to give Joe Maddon quality innings as Price, Shields, Davis, Niemann, and Hellickson all gave the Rays 7 or more innings pitched. One of the biggest fears of the offseason was the rebuilding of the Rays bullpen and the rebuilt bullpen is starting to settle into their roles. The pen worked 14 innings this week, giving up 5R, 2ER, walking 6 and striking out 12. The offense is still struggling to score runs but Evan Longoria should be back within the next two weeks and provide a presence in the middle of the lineup that is sorely missed.

What do you feel was the most positive sign for the Rays this week?

The emergence of Sam Fuld in LF and at the top of the batting order. He has been compared to Brett Butler, Scott Posednik, and Dave Roberts. rift goldWho do you liken him to?
The stability of the bullpen. Do you have any doubt in Peralta, Cruz, Russell, and Farnsworth or our you confident that the group can shut teams down?
The impressive offensive performance by Matt Joyce? Can we look forward to Joyce providing adequate protection for Evan Longoria upon his return?
The starting pitching going 7 innings or more in each of their last turns through the rotation. How many teams will be able to boast that claim during the course of the season?
Was any player on the Rays any more clutch (just love using that phrase) than Johnny Damon last week?
Has the prospect of the Rays being a contender in the AL East returned or are you of the belief that the teams lack of offensive production will doom them?

What happened in Fenway on Monday night was something that we needed more than anything. RIFT Platinum Not only did the Rays break out of their season long offensive slump by banging out 19 hits on the way to scoring 16 runs, but a cult hero was born. Because of the retirement of Manny Ramirez the Rays were able to move Johnny Damon to DH and give little used outfielder Sam Fuld the opportunity to start in LF. The 29 year old Fuld seized the opportunity and went 4-6 with 4 extra base hits and the #LegendofSamFuld was born. The game also featured Jeremy Hellickson's first career start in Fenway Park and he was up the challenge earning the win by going 5.1 innings and only giving up 2 runs on the evening.

Following up Sam Fulds electrifying performance in Fenway was David Price who showed why he is a true ace. Price held the Red Sox to 2 runs on 5 hits over 7.2 innings (116 Pitches) and the Rays offense mustered 3 runs against Jon Lester. The Rays bullpen came into their first high leverage situation on the year and shut the Red Sox down over the last 1.1 innings without giving up a hit. RIFT Platinum Kyle Farnsworth worked an impressive 9th inning by striking out Jacoby Ellsbury and J.D. Drew before getting David Ortiz to fly out to right and picked up his second save on the season.

The Rays final game in Boston was rained out but the day off did not seem to stall the Rays momentum. The Rays returned home to face the Minnesota Twins and James Shields provided the Rays 7 solid innings and held the Twins to 2 runs. rift gold The Rays offense remained dormant through the first 8 innings but came alive against struggling Twins closer Joe Nathan. The Rays tied the game on a key 1-out 2 run double by Matt Joyce. The Rays bullpen gave up a run in the top of the 10th but the offense came right back on Twins reliever Matt Capps. With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Sam Fuld drew a walk and Johnny Damon homered to give the Rays a walk off victory.

Wade Davis gave the Rays 7 strong innings on Friday night and the Rays offense got to Nick Blackburn in the 5th inning on their way to a relatively easy 5-2 victory. The bullpen gave up one earned run over the final two innings and Kyle Farnsworth came in with two out in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 5 pitch save by striking out Michael Cuddyer.

Jeff Niemann followed the nice trend of giving the team solid innings by working 7 strong innings on Saturday evening and limiting the Twins to 3 runs. Rift Gold The Rays trailed 3-1 after 7 innings but were able to add a solo tally off Matt Capps in the 8th inning to draw within a run at 3-2. The Twins once again turned to Joe Nathan to shut the door and put Thursday's evening blown save behind him. Ben Zobrist, mired in a 5-37 slump greeted Nathan with a solo home run to tie the score at 3 and the Rays offense wasn't done. BJ Upton drew a walk and stole second base and Casey Kotchman drew a walk to put runners at 1st and 2nd with nobody out and John Jaso due up. RIFT Platinum In a hard to understand move, Joe Maddon had John Jaso swing away and he flied out. Jose Mijares replaced Joe Nathan and he struck out Elliot Johnson for the second out before walking Sam Fuld to load the bases for Johnny Damon. Damon fell behind in the count 1-2 before lining a walk off single to right.

The Rays and Jeremy Hellickson dropped the series finale 4-2. rift gold The Rays were a victim of some nice plays by the Twins in the field and by their own shortcomings in the inability to get the timely hit, poor baserunning, and some questionable fielding.

The Rays enter the week 3.5 games behind the New York Yankees. RIFT Platinum This week sees the Rays host the Chicago White Sox in a 4 game series and then travel to Toronto for a 3 game set against the Twins. The pitching matchups for the Chicago Series are Edwin Jackson vs David Price on Monday, John Danks vs James Shields on Tuesday, Phil Humber vs Wade Davis on Wednesday, and Gavin Floyd vs Jeff Niemann on Thursday. The White Sox are struggling right now and are 7-8 and have lost their last 4 in a row. The pitching matchups for the Toronto series are Jeremy Hellickson vs Jo Jo Reyes on Friday, David Price vs Jesse Listch on Saturday, and James Shield vs Brandon Morrow on Sunday
Shingles, like chickenpox, are thought to attack only once in a person's lifetime. rift gold But that is not the case according to new research published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings in February.

Varicella zoster virus, which first causes chickenpox, is never completely eradicated from some of the nerve cells in the body -- leaving the chance for shingles. Chickenpox usually infects children, but shingles -- which produces a painful rash on one side of the body or face -- most often strikes later in life, although even kids can have it.

It's unclear what brings the herpes virus back, but compromised immune systems are a risk factor and even stress is thought to play a role. Nearly 1 out of every 3 Americans will develop shingles at some point in their lives.

Researchers at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, Minn. have found that after patients have shingles, RIFT Platinum they are not necessarily protected from another outbreak, the Wall Street Journal reports.

"It's been thought that recurrences were limited to people with compromised immune systems, for instance from chemotherapy or blood borne malignancies, Rift Gold but this is not the case," lead author, Dr. Barbara Yawn, director of research at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, said in a statement. "Recurrence was prevalent in the immunocompetent population. We were very surprised by the results."

Yawn and her team went through medical records of nearly 1,700 patients who had a bout of shingles, which causes not only a skin rash but also serious pain. RIFT Platinum In the next eight to 12 years, more than 5 percent of patients had a recurrence, and some had gotten it as many as three times. Yawn hypothesized that following the patients for longer periods of time would find an even high recurrence rate.

The chances of a recurrence seemed to be related to two factors. Although 50 percent of shingles cases occur in people over 60, age didn't seem to be a factor. Instead, the pain a patient had during the first episode of shingles seemed to determine if it would return. rift gold Those who had pain, which can include burning or tingling of the skin, itching chills, upset stomach and blisters for more than 30 days were most likely to get it again. Patients with the worst pain were also more likely to have shingles roar back in just three to four years.

The shingles vaccine, Zostavax, which is currently recommended for people 60 and older, could help fight off a second occurrence, according to the researchers.

"We'd thought that suffering a worse case would possibly give patients more resistance to a second occurrence," said Yawn, "but our data presented the exact opposite."

The vaccine produced by Merck, which also funded part of the study, works by boosting the immune system to keep the pre-existing virus in check, according to the Wall St. Journal. RIFT Platinum There have been some backorders of the vaccine, making it difficult to get in some areas, but Merck expects to have more supply in coming years.
If you like a good old-fashioned throwdown, make sure you're on the couch on Saturday night when Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson get set to do work in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 24.

Considered two of the UFC welterweight division's biggest punchers, RIFT Platinum the two virtually guaranteed that every moment of the fight would be filled with stand-up action, until one of them is no longer able to stand.

"I'm not planning to go to the ground with Anthony," Hardy told MMA Fighting during a teleconference. "I'm planning to send him down on his own."

Johnson felt even more strongly about the chances of seeing any grappling or groundwork.

"Hell, no. This fight ain't going to the ground," he said. "You're talking to two guys who love to bang, plain and simple. We don't like that lovey-dovey stuff, we want to keep it on the feet, give everybody what they want, what they pay their money for."

The fight involves some potentially big stakes; Hardy is on a two-fight losing streak while Johnson will be fighting for the first since a Nov. 2009 submission loss to Josh Koscheck. RIFT Platinum Given the deep welterweight talent pool, the loser risks being left behind if not cut altogether.

The bout might have more importance for Hardy, who was knocked out for the first time in his career after more than 30 fights at UFC 120. rift gold Hardy said there were no psychological ramifications to having his lights shut off for the first time, and that he was back in the gym just days later.

He attributes the KO loss to Carlos Condit to his own overconfidence and a belief in his superiority as a striker, and said he has no qualms about continuing on with his aggressive striking style, even though he acknowledged it's sometimes "a roll of the dice." Rift Gold That is part of the fun of fighting for him, and he wants the pressure of it, along with a feeling that he may even be fighting for his job.

"It happens," he said of the knockout. "It's annoying. The thing that annoys me about it is that Condit thinks he's a better fighter than me now and i know in my heart that's not true. But as far as actually getting knocked out, let's be honest, it doesn't hurt. RIFT Platinum I opened my eyes and had doctors around me and knew exactly what happened straight away. But there's no pain, nothing to be scared of. It's one of those things, sometimes it happens. It doesn't change anything. I'm going to keep doing exactly what I do because I love doing it."

While he was rehabilitating his knee, Johnson voiced a possibility of moving up to middleweight but says now he threw out the possibility to keep his name in the news, rift gold and that he was never serious about the idea. Now, though, he plans to put his name in the headlines with his performance.

"I try to make a statement every time I fight to let everybody know who I am," he said. "That's just who I am, period. RIFT Platinum I have to go out there and show I'm back. It's time to go out there, put them hands up, and do what me and Dan do best, and that's throw punches and throw blows and knock people out. So one way or another, somebody's getting knocked out."
It is a shame that the Sox are 7-6. They are near the top of the league in all offensive categories. rift gold We haven't even heard much of the fire Walker crew that usually is in full force by now. After a bit of a shaky start, the starting pitching has really settled in nicely. This past week showed one sub par outing (Edwin Jackson on Tuesday and they won the game), yet the Sox went 3-3 in that span. The primary cause has been the work out of the bullpen. Matt Thornton is 0-4 in save opportunities. That is absolutely unacceptable. However, the defense has been letting them down a whole lot more than I would have thought. The outfield has been atrocious. RIFT Platinum Amazingly, Carlos Quentin has been the only outfielder that hasn't made me throw up in my mouth yet. I do think they will stop dropping balls in the 9th inning, which should allow Thornton to be a little more successful and thus allowing me to be a happier man. As of now though, it is criminal that with the hitting and starting pitching we have received that we are 7-6.

Speaking of Quentin, it seems he is in need of another sprinkling of magic pixie dust. He is hitting .167 on the home stand (4-24) and hasn't recorded an RBI since April 6th. His at bat yesterday evening in the 8th inning was also terrible. If you are going to hack at the 3-0 pitch you better not pop it up weakly into right field. I am really hoping that we didn't miss out on a week of his usual 2 week stretch where he is the best player in the league due to it coming in Arizona.

Alexei Ramirez had two more hits on Friday to raise his slash line to .292/.358/.542. He has 3 homers, including a game winner. RIFT Platinum Ramirez seems to really be breaking out. I don't think that it is much of a stretch to call him the best shortstop in the American League.

The bullpen has taken its fair share of very deserving criticism this season, but Sergio Santos continues to impress. He is now up to 8 2/3 scoreless innings on the season, having struck out 11 guys. rift gold Opponents are hitting .167 against him. It appears that the "rules" the White Sox put in place for Santos have been removed. Santos now needs to show he can do it on back to back days and for multiple innings. I think he should do fine. His arm doesn't have years of wear and tear due to pitching in college and through the minors. Rift Gold It is refreshing when he comes in the game, as I am pretty confident that nobody is going to score off of him when he enters.

As much as I dislike Mark Teahen, you have to give the guy his due for what he did when Adam Dunn was out. RIFT Platinum Unlike Scott Linebrink, Teahen proved he can be worth something in short spurts.

Jackie Robinson is an American icon. The abuse that he took, and the standards that he was held to in order to better the game, and in turn the entire country should be celebrated every season. I even like the idea of retiring his number throughout the entire league. But dammit, why did he have to wear number 42!?! That was the great Ron Kittle's number, and the number I wore throughout my illustrious career. rift gold When that number was retired for good in 1995, my major league dreams died as I could not see myself wearing another number in the pros. At least I get to see every player in the greatest number once a year I suppose.

Get on out to the Sox game this weekend! Your chances will be limited in the upcoming months, as after Sunday, the Sox take off for Tampa and begin a stretch where 30 of the next 43 games are road games. RIFT Platinum Only 13 home games after Sunday between Monday and June 2nd! Seems like a ton of games on the road. Hopefully we can pick up the pace away from the Cell.
Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner has booked his first fight since being cut by Zuffa following his last fight.

Varner will meet Tyler Combs in the co-main event of XFO 39, a promotion run by former WEC title challenger Jeff Curran, who will fight in the main event against Joe Pearson. rift gold The all-pro card will take place May 13 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., outside Chicago.

Varner has not won a fight since WEC 38 in January 2009, when he won a split decision against Donald Cerrone. That fight was stopped in the fifth round when Cerrone landed an accidental knee on the ground. Rift Gold When Varner couldn't continue, the fight went to the scorecards and one of MMA's biggest feuds was born.

Varner retained the WEC's lightweight title that night against Cerrone, but thanks to a broken hand in the fight, he was out of action for nearly a year. When he returned, he faced then-interim champion Ben Henderson, who submitted him in the third round with a guillotine to unify the belts. He settled for a draw against Kamal Shalorus at WEC 49 (Shalorus lost a point in that fight for low blows), lost a grudge match to Cerrone at WEC 51 and was submitted by Shane Roller at the final WEC event, WEC 53 on his home turf in Glendale, Ariz., leading to his release.

Combs (13-7-1) was scheduled to face Jorge Gurgel at the Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Rift Gold Henderson event earlier this month in Columbus, but pulled out five days before the fight with an injury. Combs lost to Mike Lullo last fall; Lullo went on to a short-notice UFC debut loss to Edson Barboza. Combs' last two wins have come against Mitch Whitesel (16-20) and Jay Ellis (11-40), who has lost 12 straight fights. He also has TKO losses to UFC lightweights Erik Koch and Bart Palaszewski on his resume.

Curran (32-13-1) has won three of his last four fights since being released by the WEC following four straight losses. RIFT Platinum Those losses came in a featherweight title fight against then-champ Urijah Faber and decision losses to Mike Brown, Joseph Benavidez and Takeya Mizugaki – all one-time WEC title holders or top challengers.

Since being let go by the WEC, Curran, who has also fought in the UFC and Pride, rift gold has a Strikeforce win and a pair of wins on his own XFO show. He lost a Bellator fight in Chicago last April to Bryan Goldsby.

His opponent, Pearson (36-17-1), a veteran of the Midwest MMA scene, has lost three straight. RIFT Platinum His biggest career win came at Pride Bushido 13 in 2006, a submission win over Yoshiro Maeda. He has notable losses to UFC fighters Miguel Torres, Faber, Koch and Raphael Assuncao.

Also scheduled to fight at XFO 39 are up-and-coming female fighters Felice Herrig and Michelle Gutierrez.
New research finds that high cholesterol and high blood pressure not only put patients at risk for heart disease but are also risk factors for early memory loss and other cognitive problems.

The study, which will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 63rd annual meeting in Honolulu on April 9–16, RIFT Platinum involved 3,486 men and 1,314 women with an average age of 55.

Participants underwent three cognitive tests during a 10-year period. The tests measured reasoning, memory, fluency, vocabulary, and rated each individual with a Framingham risk score. rift gold A Framinghman score, which is based on a government study of the same name, is used to predict one's 10-year risk of a cardiovascular event and is based on age, sex, HDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, systolic blood pressure and whether or not a person smoked or had diabetes.

"We found that cardiovascular risk in middle age is related to lower overall cognitive function," Sara Kaffashian, Rift Gold study co-author and doctoral student at INSERM, the French Institute of Health and Medical Research in Paris, told AOL Health.

Poor cognitive test scores, including memory problems, were linked with a 10 percent higher risk of cardiovascular problems and cognitive decline in both men and women.

"This is important from the prevention point of view because middle-aged individuals can improve their cardiovascular health in order to prevent or delay cognitive decline or dementia later in life," says Kaffashian. RIFT Platinum "Our study builds on existing evidence for the importance of identifying and treating vascular risk factors particularly early in life."

Kaffashian says vascular risk factors, rift gold such as high blood pressure, are currently the only treatable and preventable risk factors for memory decline and dementia.

"Therefore, active treatment of these risk factors through lifestyle modifications like smoking cessation and exercise, or medication, particularly early in life, RIFT Platinum may not only prevent stroke and heart disease but preserve cognitive function," says Kaffashian.

"Evidence from clinical and pathological studies suggests that treating hypertension can decrease the risk of dementia," she added.

A potential measles outbreak is brewing in Boston as health officials say they have two confirmed and three suspected cases of the dangerous and potentially deadly disease there.

Once nearly eradicated, outbreaks of the measles have become more commonplace in the U.S. RIFT Platinum in recent years as more parents choose not to vaccinate their children based on the myth that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine causes autism.

"Measles are very contagious and they can be transmitted from person to person very easily," Dr. Carl Fichtenbaum, professor of clinical medicine at the University of Cincinnati, told AOL Health. Rift Gold "The virus can be transmitted through droplets from coughing or sneezing just like influenza or tuberculosis."

Federal health officials recommend that all children receive the MMR vaccination before starting elementary school and, again, before starting college.

Fichtenbaum says current vaccination rates remain strong despite recent concerns about vaccinations causing conditions such as autism. RIFT Platinum In light of the potential Boston outbreak, however, he urges the general public (children and adults) to maintain their vaccinations.

"If people don't get vaccinated, they place themselves and others at risk," says Fichtenbaum. rift gold "It's one thing to make a personal decision, but it's another when your decision affects others."

Although measles is still relatively rare in this country, Fichtenbaum said people should continue to think of measles as a serious disease. "Two thousand to 10,000 children died annually in the U.S. [from measles] before vaccines were available," he says.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 61 reported cases of measles in the United States in 2010 and 12 cases reported this year through mid-February, Reuters reports.

The most recent multi-state measles outbreak was in 2008, when more than 130 cases were reported in 15 states, according to the CDC.

The Boston cases appear to have started with a woman that caught the disease while overseas.

The Boston Public Health Commission released information Tuesday about an investigation into a suspected case of measles in a University of Massachusetts faculty member who teaches about 45 students at the Boston campus. On Wednesday, officials confirmed that a 20-year-old female, who lives in the same apartment complex as the professor, the Park Square Building in the Back Bay, also may have the measles.

The state's infectious disease bureau says students, faculty and staff, who have not been immunized and were exposed to the infected professor, should refrain from public activities for 21 days after their last contact or until a measles diagnosis is dismissed.

The university and state Public Health Commission are working together to identify individuals who are at risk. rift gold In addition, the university's Health Services has measles vaccinations available and is distributing a campus-wide letter urging individuals to take precautions.

Laboratory tests confirming other suspected measles cases in the Boston area are still pending.

In an unrelated case, U.S. health officials are on the lookout for measles cases possibly connected to an infected air traveler, a New Mexico woman, RIFT Platinum who recently stopped at four major airports in Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, and New Mexico and visited Washington, D.C.

Because measles rates are traditionally low in the U.S., it would take very few infections to cause an epidemic.

"I think the key question is: how many people could be affected?" explains Fichtenbaum who says 20 infected patients could be considered an epidemic in the U.S.

Measles symptoms include cough, runny nose and itchy eyes similar to the flu with increased eye irritation. Rift Gold These symptoms will last several days and are followed by a rash starting on the head and progressing down the body.
Per Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Houston Astros do have interest in Blue Jays righthander David Purcey, RIFT Platinum who was designated for assignment earlier this week. Purcey posted a 3.71 ERA last year for the Jays in 34 innings, rift gold with a 2.13 SO/BB ratio. However, he has been hit early and often this year, and that 3.71 ERA represents the best season of his career. Purcey does work with 90+ MPH heat though, so he's obviously got teams interested in him for a reason.

If the Astros managed to pick Purcey up, the roster spot that may be up for grabs could be Rule V pick Aneury Rodriguez's spot. Rift Gold Rodriguez was recently suspended three games for hitting a batter, and he's sporting a sterling 13.5 ERA in five appearances so far. RIFT Platinum Fernando Abad may also be a candidate to go, although I doubt the Astros would get rid of the only lefty reliever they have on the roster now since they don't see him as much of a specialist. Stop me if you're surprised by this news; Ed Wade interested in a new reliever, film at eleven.

A 24-year Swedish study -- the largest to date on this topic -- has concluded that thinner men have a higher risk of taking their own lives than men who are overweight.

After analyzing the medical records of 18,277 men who attempted suicide, study researchers discovered that obese men were 12 percent less likely to make an attempt compared to men of an average weight,
Rift Goldwhile underweight men were 12 percent more likely to do so.

This study, which was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, coincides with a previous U.S. study that also discovered the same connection with body mass index and suicide risk.

Researchers, including lead study author Dr. Finn Rasmussen of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, remain uncertain as to why this trend continues. However, one unproven theory involved insulin, which has the ability to affect the mood-altering chemical serotonin.RIFT Platinum "Suicide risk has been shown to increase with increasing numbers of insulin sensitivity markers, including low BMI," stated the study authors, as reported by Reuters Health.

Researchers have also speculated that underweight men may suffer from body image issues since a small physique can be looked upon as being less than "ideal." rift gold

Dr. Kenneth J. Mukamal, of Harvard University and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, who wrote an editorial with the study, told AOL Health that depression may also be a factor.

By combining data from various reports, Mukamal found that thinner men also had a higher rate of successful suicide attempts. RIFT Platinum He said this may be due to the fact that underweight men are more likely than obese men to choose suicide methods that are more deadly, such as jumping to their deaths.
